Beacon Ridge Improvement Community (BRIC)

 

Beacon Ridge Improvement Community (BRIC) is a volunteer-based group of North Beacon Hill neighbors working together to improve public safety, eliminate street crime, and build a stronger and more livable community.

 

BRIC was formed in 2004 to address public safety issues related to drug, alcohol and prostitution activity on and around the S. Walker, S. Hill, and S. Holgate public stairways.

Accomplishments & Activities

 

·   $15,000 grant from City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods for S. Walker, S. Hill, and S. Holgate stairway improvements, beautification and  safety

·   Worked with various City of Seattle departments to improve the basic infrastructure of the stairways including concrete and handrail repair

·   Quarterly Adopt-A-Street neighborhood litter clean-ups

·   Annual invasive plant removal work parties (Seattle Spring Clean)

·   Yahoo Group  and list serve improves communication among BRIC neighbors

·   Monthly neighborhood walks through stairs and surrounding neighborhood

·   Created a neighborhood phone/e-mail list

·   Outreach to involve ALL North Beacon Hill residents in neighborhood activities

·   Created & Distributed ‘in case of emergency’ City of Seattle phone numbers

·   Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale

·   Neighborhood potlucks & BBQ’s

·   Removed 80+ abandoned vehicles that were parked on our streets. The cars were towed away by City of Seattle

·   Annual “Night Out” block party as part of the national Block Watch program

·   Monthly Neighborhood Meetings

 

BRIC Neighbors participate in other neighborhood groups including:

·   Beacon Hill Elementary Parents Teacher Association (PTA)

·   Beacon Alliance of Neighbors (BAN)

·   Jefferson Park Alliance

·   Beacon Hill Pedestrian Task Force

 

BRIC Neighbors maintain relationships with various city departments to

address crime and public safety issues including

·   Seattle Department of Transportation

·   Seattle Public Utilities

·   Seattle City Light
